How to Take Care of Your Brakes

If you learn to take care of your brakes, it will not only save you money but could also prevent your brakes ever failing and causing an accident.

First, anticipate when you will need to slow down and rather than using the brake immediately, simply take your foot off the gas and allow the car to begin to slow on its own. This will make a major difference to how much wear is on the brakes. You should learn to drive by looking a long way ahead, and see if there is a stop sign, or stationary traffic, as that is a sign to begin coasting in your vehicle.

Try and ensure that your vehicle is not overloaded as a heavy vehicle will use more gas and wear down the tires and the brakes more quickly. If you play golf then take the clubs out of the trunk if you do not need them, rather than leaving them in there all of the time.

On Monday December 14 an unknown male was involved in a single vehicle accident off Route 21 in the German Township.

According to authorities on the scene, the accident happened at approximately 4 p.m. Charles Corcoran, fire chief with Masontown Volunteer Fire Department stated that the driver had to be extracted from his vehicle after his vehicle lost traction with the road surface, flipped and slid down an embankment hitting a tree. A medical helicopter was initially called to transport the injured driver but was subsequently grounded due to weather conditions. He was therefore taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, West Virginia suffering from a head wound and going in and out of consciousness. The full extent of his injuries is unknown. There were no passengers in the vehicle and no other vehicles were involved.

Initial investigation seems to indicate that the driver could have lost control of his vehicle due to adverse weather conditions as it was raining when the incident occurred.
