Former Student Pleads Guilty in Deadly Accident Case

On Monday, December 19, a former West Virginia University student pleaded guilty to two felony charges relating to a deadly accident in January in Morgantown.

Alexander Hambrick, of Putnam County, pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of a fatal accident and driving under the influence of alcohol, causing death in the case of an accident in January.
According to police, Hambrick was under the influence when he hit 20 year old Carli Sears, of Charleston, with his pickup truck as she was walking down Stewart Street in Morgantown which caused her death.

Hambrick could face up to 20 years in prison for leaving the scene of a fatal accident, he faces between one to five years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines. For driving under the influence of alcohol, causing death, he could be sentenced to between three to 15 years in prison and up to $3,000 in fines.

Sentencing is due at the end of February.
