On Saturday August 13, a man was critically injured in a fireworks accident in Morgantown.
According to Morgantown police, the accident happened in the area of Third Street and McLain Avenue,. Paul Spitznogle, aged 24, ignited the charge of the firework which was in a mortar tube and held it over his head to launch it. But he mistakenly thought that the charge had launched so he pulled the tube down near his chest which was when the charge exploded.
He was rushed to Ruby Memorial hospital in Morgantown in a critical condition where he underwent multiple surgeries and is still said to be critical.
Morgantown Police went on to say although there have been recent changes to the fireworks regulations, they reminded that the use of them within Morgantown city limits remains illegal.
