On Thursday June 16 there was a 15 vehicle crash on Interstate 81 during a major thunderstorm.
According to authorities, the accident happened between Martinsburg and Spring Mills at about 5 p.m. and it was thought to have been caused by a reckless driver, who did not drive according to the conditions. The accident lead to the death of one person and 10 more were injured.
Police said the reckless driver would be charged.
The storm caused damaged throughout West Virginia with downed trees and thousands left without power as well as traffic accidents. During Thursday evening around 36,000 customers were without power, although that reduced to 16,000 by Friday morning.
The storm brought with it a tornado, damaging winds, and hail up to one inch in diameter along with heavy rain with the Morgantown area being especially badly hit.
